A Lazy Person’s Guide to Getting Wrinkle Free Clothes Without Using an Iron

Who doesn’t love wearing perfectly crisp ironed clothes? But the journey from picking up a wrinkled shirt, waiting for the iron to heat up, then going back and forth with the iron in hand is so not pleasant. We would be lying if we said it isn’t that bad because we are all universally united in despising the process of ironing.

Many of our clothes do not see the outside world simply because they require too much time and effort in getting their wrinkles out and so they remain forever in the darkness of the wardrobe.

Imagine you took the time to iron clothes and put them in the wardrobe for later only to find them wrinkled again when it was time to wear them. You have no time on your hand and you are not in the mood to open an iron board.

Wouldn’t it be amazing to get wrinkle-free ironed clothes without actually using the iron?

So here we are today with a lazy person’s guide to getting wrinkle-free clothes without using an iron.

5 Simple Ways to Get Iron Clothes Without Using an Iron

1. Hang your clothes in the bathroom while you take a steam bath

This is our personal favorite and we swear by it that it works like magic, especially on cotton and linen fabrics. Anytime you want to get wrinkles out of your clothes and you are heading for a shower, take your clothes with you. Sounds adorably simple, right? It is but the only trick here is to have a steamy hot bath that turns your bathroom into a sauna. You can switch off the exhaust fan or close the bathroom window for maximum results. The steam inside the bathroom will remove 80% of the wrinkles from your clothes.

2. Use your dryer to get the wrinkles out

Another easy and quick way to get iron clothes without using an iron is to toss your clothes in the dryer, grab a few ice cubes from your freezer and throw them in the dryer. Set a maximum heat setting on your dryer. The trick here is that the heat of the dryer melts the ice cube creating instant steam. The circular motion of the dryer and the steam inside remove the wrinkles from your clothes. You get wrinkle-free clothes within 5 minutes.

Different clothes require different dryer settings and combinations. Here is what you can do when it comes to thin or thick clothing items.

  • Thinner clothing items – Put a damp sock in the dryer and run it for 10 mins.
  • Thicker clothing items – Put a damp towel in the dryer and run it for 20 mins.

3. Work immediately on your damp clothes

One of the easiest and most convenient methods of getting wrinkles out of clothes and having your entire wash load look like ironed clothes is to immediately work with them. That does not mean you open the iron board and start ironing every clothing item. All you have to do is give your clothes a good shake and stretch the fabric bit by bit all over. Next, put them on a line to air dry them. This will dry your clothes without getting any wrinkles.

4. Transfer heat and pressure on your wrinkled clothes

If none of the above tricks are working for you – you may not have a dryer, you are not going for a shower and you have just taken out your clothes from the wardrobe. What now?

You can simply use the trick of heat and pressure to get wrinkles out of your clothes. Place your wrinkled clothes on a flat surface. Put a damp towel over it. Take the heaviest book available or work with your hands to apply pressure all over your clothes. This perfect combination of heat and pressure will remove most of the wrinkles giving you fresh iron clothes ready in minutes.

5. Use your hair dryer for instant ironed clothes in seconds

This is pretty simple and it gets the results in a few seconds. Simply put your wrinkled clothes on a hanger and dampen them with a spray bottle. Next, use the hair dryer on the wrinkles. Make sure you place the hair dryer 2 to 3 inches away from the fabric and work in a straight downward motion. Within a few strokes, your clothes will be wrinkle-free and ready to wear almost as if they were ironed.

Get Wrinkles Out of Stubborn Clothing Areas - Cuffs and Collars

Getting wrinkles out of clothes without iron is still an easy task but getting wrinkles out from cuffs and collars is always the most difficult part even with an iron. The tips above may not work well on the cuffs and collars. This is where flat hair straighteners come into the picture because not all heroes wear a cape. Some come with heat and pressure.

When you don’t have time to iron clothes, use any of the above tricks to get most of the wrinkles out of your clothes. For cuffs and collars, use a flat hair straightener.

Here’s what you should do:

  1. Clean the flat hair straightener with a sanitizer wipe or a damp cloth.
  2. Make sure there is no hair product residue on the hair straightener.
  3. Switch on the hair straightener. Use max heat for cotton clothes and low heat for thinner clothes.
  4. Hold the cuff/collar tight – remove any wrinkling by hand.
  5. Move the tongs of the hair straightener in one quick motion across the cuff and collar.
  6. Give it a few long strokes until you get all the wrinkles out.
  7. Pat yourself on the shoulder for a job well done.

These 7 steps will barely take 5 minutes and your clothes will look crisp, fresh, and well-ironed without using the iron.

Make a Wrinkle Remover Spray for Grab & Go Times

Since this is a lazy person’s guide to getting wrinkles out of clothes and wearing ironed clothes without using an iron, let’s also talk about a time when you don’t want to do anything big. Or maybe you just never want to touch an iron ever again.

We got your back. Make your own wrinkle remover spray at home and use it whenever you want ironed clothes but do not want to iron them. We bet all the ingredients for this spray are in your home right now.

All you need to do is – mix 2 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of hair conditioner, and 1  tablespoon of white vinegar in a spray bottle.

Shake and spray all over your wrinkled clothes to make them slightly damp. Gently stretch your fabric to remove wrinkles. Your wrinkle-free clothes are ready to wear without using an iron. Make sure you test a patch when working with delicate clothing items as some fabrics get easily stained – silk for example.
